Foot and Ankle Surgery

Surgery can be used to treat a variety of foot and ankle conditions, from bunions to torn tendons to severe arthritis. Foot and ankle surgery is usually only considered after non-surgical treatments have been tried without the desired result. However, some conditions, particularly acute injuries such as broken ankles, may require immediate surgery.

Many surgical procedures can be used to treat foot and ankle disorders. Depending on the type of condition, the goal of surgery may be to straighten broken bones, fuse painful joints, remove overgrown tissue, or repair a torn ligament or tendon. If there is significant damage and severe pain in the ankle, a total ankle replacement may be recommended.
